Founded in 1952, Inner Mongolia Normal University is one of the key universities in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, established as the first institution of higher education in the frontier ethnic region after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. IMNU is a comprehensive normal university with characteristic features of both teacher and ethnic education.

There are 98 subjects covering 10 disciplines in undergraduate programs, 8 first-level disciplines for doctoral degree, 1 post-doctoral research station, 27 first-level disciplines for master’s degree, and 11 professional master’s degree programs.

There are currently more than 300,00 full-time students. Over 280,000 graduates excelling at different fields have been successfully cultivated. IMNU is focusing on construction of “Double First-Class” project, keeps on promoting international cooperation, and has established good partnerships with more than 20 countries and regions and over 80 famous universities, research institutes, enterprises, and local governments at home and abroad.

The Chinese Government Scholarship “High-level Postgraduate” program is designed to finance the study of international students in China, who are with excellent academic background, outstanding professional competence, and great development potentials. IMNU will be devoted to cultivating high-level international talents, taking full advantages of disciplines.

I. Supporting Categories and Majors

Master program: 3 academic years.

Doctoral program: 3-4 academic years.

Please note:

Applicants can apply for one year of remedial Chinese language study before entering the major study (only for Chinese-taught majors).

II. Scholarship Coverage

1. Tuition fees in set period

2. Free university dormitory

3. Living stipend:

(1)  Master’s students: CNY 3,000 per month;

(2)  Doctoral students: CNY 3,500 per month.

4. Comprehensive medical insurance

III. Eligibility

1. Applicants must be citizens of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically.

2. Requirements of age, education, and language proficiency

(1) Applicants must be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs；

(2) Applicants must be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;

(3) Language Proficiency: HSK level 4 or above is required when applying for Chinese-taught mater’s or doctoral programs; (HSK Certificate is not necessary if the applicant previously gains Chinese-taught degree in a Chinese university.)

3. Applicants should be international students outside China in principle, yet outstanding fresh graduates with bachelor degree and master’s degree who have studied in China can also apply for the program.

IV. Application Documents

1. Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form (with the applicant’s signature).

2. Passport Home page (of validity later than September 2023). If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement, please apply for a new passport before submitting the application.

3. Notarized Highest Diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official document proof of student status by their current school.

4. Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic transcripts from the first to the last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) should be provided. These transcripts should be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. Transcripts can be in Chinese or English, and they must be attached with notarized English translation if they are in foreign languages other than English.

5. Language Qualification Certificates. Applicants for Chinese-taught majors must submit valid transcripts of HSK Level 4 or above (within validity).

6. A study Plan Proposal in China (focus of material review). It should be written in Chinese or English language (no less than 1000 words). The proposal of a doctoral student should be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor.

7. Recommendation Letters. Two letters of recommendation from professor or associate professor should be submitted. The content should include the applicant's learning objectives in China, the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchange between universities both in China and abroad, as well as the evaluation of the applicant's comprehensive ability and future development. It can only be written in Chinese or English.

8. Personal works. When applying for majors related to art or design, applicants should submit materials of their own works (such as videos, paintings, etc.) through “Works/Other Supporting Documents” in the system. Applicants can also provide these materials to the applied universities directly in other ways as required. Awards and proof of academic competence (if any).

9. A photocopy of Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (The original copy can be kept by the applicant. The form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine Department and should be filled out in English). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in Physical Examination Form for Foreigners. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are considered as invalid. The examination results are valid only for 6 months.

10. Non-Criminal Record Report. Applicants should submit a valid Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authorities, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

11. The supervisor-issued acceptance letter from Inner Mongolia Normal University. Written in Chinese or English. This document is not a must, but will be regarded as one of the priorities for CSG selection.

Please note:

1. All application documents should be in Chinese or English. Documents not in Chinese or English should be notarized and translated into Chinese or English.

2. Uploaded supporting documents should be clear, authentic, and valid. Applicants are recommended to use a professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicants should bear the consequences caused by uploading unclear or unidentifiable materials.

3. Application documents will NOT be returned regardless of admission status.

V. Application Procedure

1. Login to http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn to complete the online registration. Use the registered username and password to log onto for application. IMNU’s institution code is 10135, and the program category is B.

2. Fill in Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form online, then print and sign the name.

3. Applicants are encouraged to contact supervisors from IMNU to get recommendation letter or acceptance letter (applicants with acceptance letter from the supervisor of IMNU will be given priority to enrollment).

4. After the applicant's application is submitted, IMNU will review the application materials, organizes the pre-admission evaluation, and recommend the candidates. Emails for the result of scholarship evaluation will be sent to the recommended candidates, applicants are requested to respond promptly whether to accept the admission.

5. IMNU will submit the application materials of pre-admitted applicants to the China Scholarship Council (CSC).

6. Once the final admission result is confirmed by CSC, IMNU will send the Admission Notice and JW201 to the applicants.

VI. Notice

1. Chinese Government Scholarship recipients will be granted no more than one scholarship (excluding all kinds of one-time rewards) sponsored by Chinese governments at all levels, as well as the admission colleges and universities at the same time. Once found, the qualification of the Chinese government scholarship will be cancelled and the Chinese government scholarship will be refunded. For those who deliberately conceal their funding, the scholarship qualification will be cancelled and students are not eligible to apply for Chinese Government Scholarship within three years.

2. Applicants are not eligible to apply for IMNU if they have applied for other colleges or universities in Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS).

3. Scholarship students are not allowed to change the field of study, duration of study, and instructional languages after admission.

4. Scholarship qualification will be revoked if the applicant who is a current university student fails to obtain the appropriate certificate or provide qualified physical examination report.

5. Scholarship recipients have to take an annual evaluation, the result of which will decide whether scholarship qualification will be continued, suspended, or cancelled in the following year.

6. Students should complete the registration procedures within the designated time duration by IMNU, and provide materials including Admission Notice, JW201 Visa Application Form, Foreigner Physical Examination Form, original copy of highest diploma (Original copy not in Chinese or English should be notarized and translated into Chinese or English), etc. Scholarship and admission qualification will be revoked for those who fail in re-evaluation after registration.

7. Registration arrangement in the university for overseas students will be further notified according to the border restrictions in China.

8. Application documents will NOT be returned regardless of admission status.
